ASK #5

Message your friends, family, and coworkers directly

Sometimes a one-to-one communication will be more effective at recruiting sponsors. Think about 3 people in your close circle who may be in a position to also sponsor a family and reach out directly via email or direct message.

I wanted to share http://1kproject.org that was recently launched by Alex Iskold, Minda Brusse, and a team of 30 volunteers. The project uses trusted personal networks to directly match a family in need with a family committed to giving them $1k for 3 months.  I was referred to the project by a friend and just sponsored a family. I am reaching out because I thought you may be interested in getting involved as a sponsor or to refer a family in need.

Email your friends, family or coworkers

Please consider sending an email to other perspective sponsors in your network. This is great either 1-1 or if you have a mailing list you use. Here is a sample, please tweak as you think makes sense.

Subject: Sharing the 1k Project with you

Friends,

I hope you and your family are safe. I wanted to share The $1k Project that we launched recently with a team of 30 volunteers because of the pandemic.

We use trusted personal networks to directly match a family in need with a family committed to giving them $1,000 for 3 months.

We've already helped fund 150 families and you can read their stories here: http://1kproject.org/stories

Here's how you can help us and extend the $1k Project to help more families.

1. Nominate a family you know to be sponsored - an owner of your favorite restaurant, a stylist, a fitness instructor, a housekeeper, or a friend in need: http://1kproject.org/refer

2. Share this with a small business to let them nominate employees with families who are struggling: http://1kproject.org/employee

3. If you are in a position to, please consider sponsoring a family by yourself or as a group: http://1kproject.org/sponsor

Here are some links about the project.

Reach out to local businesses

From its beginning, the goal of The $1k Project was to help millions of small business employees. You can help us get closer to the goal by reaching out to the local businesses in your city. Please consider direct messaging them on Facebook and encouraging them to nominate the families of their employees who they had to let go or furlough.

Instructions for messaging businesses

I'm volunteering with The $1k Project. We are looking for business owners to nominate staff that you've had to lay off or furlough. We use trusted personal networks to directly match a family in need with a family committed to giving them $1,000 for 3 months. The application is fast because it relies on your nomination. Can you think of 1 or more families who are struggling that you want to nominate? If you'd like, please nominate them here: http://1kproject.org/employee.

ASK #8

Reach out to organizations

Do you know any relevant organizations that could be helpful to the project? For example your college alumni associations could be a great source for family referrals or sponsors.

Are you connected to local SMB associations, restaurant groups, relevant non-profits?

If you are we would love your help, please drop us an email to hello@1kproject.org and we will collaborate with you on the best ways to reach out.

ASK #9

Reach out to newsletters and influencers

Are you connected to newsletters read by professionals in the restaurant industry? Beauty space? Fitness? Are you connected to influencers in those or other spaces and feel comfortable reaching out to them?

If you are we would love your help, please drop us an email to hello@1kproject.org and we will collaborate with you on the best ways to reach out.

ASK #10

Ask your friends, family, and coworkers to volunteer

And last but not least, please ask your friends, family and co-workers to volunteer and help light up their networks. If all of us could bring just a few more people to The $1k Project network, it will grow at light speed. It will grow faster than the virus. That's our goal. That's why we are here - to help millions of families impacted by the pandemic as fast as possible.

If your friend, a family member or a co-worker would like to help tell them to please email hello@1kproject.org.
